A shooting incident in the commercial district of Makati was quickly disrupted by police on Wednesday night, leading to the arrest of two Chinese nationals suspected of targeting a Filipino man.

Units from the Southern Police District (SPD), including Makati Substations 3 and 5, SWAT, and Tactical Motorcycle Riders, responded within minutes to reports of gunfire around 9:13 p.m. at the parking area of Makati Cinema Square on Amorsolo Street, Barangay Pio del Pilar.

The 40-year-old victim, alias “Christopher,” was inside a black Toyota Fortuner and about to exit the parking area when a gunman opened fire.

“Multiple shots hit the vehicle, fortunately the victim survived,” the SPD said in a statement.

Responding officers arrested two armed suspects before they could flee the scene. The suspects were identified as “Liquan,” 44, and “Xunjun,” 36.

Police recovered a Glock .40 caliber pistol with a magazine, an HK MP5 9mm submachine gun with two loaded magazines, several knives, a hammer, duct tape, double-sided tape, and a black bag. Authorities also seized two cellphones and a metallic green Toyota Vios with mismatched license plates.

Crime scene investigators from the SPD Forensic Group recovered four spent cartridge cases. The victim’s SUV sustained four bullet holes: two on the left rear passenger window, one on the front passenger door, and one on the right door frame.

Formal complaints for attempted murder and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared against the suspects. The SPD said further investigation is ongoing into the motive, the suspects’ immigration status, and possible links to criminal groups.
