Senator Christopher “Bong” Go joined the opening of the 50-Up Basketball League in Cainta, where he urged Filipinos to “get into sports” to promote health, discipline, and youth development.

Go, an avid sports fan and chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, emphasized the role of sports in improving public health, fostering discipline, and steering the youth away from harmful influences.

He also reaffirmed his support for grassroots sports initiatives that bring communities together and encourage active lifestyles.

“First, I want to extend my gratitude to all of you for organizing this 50-year-old and above tournament,” said the 51-year-old Go during the opening of the event at the Ynares covered court inside the Greenwoods Executive Village in Cainta, Rizal on Saturday.

“I was just seven years old when I fell in love with basketball. That’s why until now, this is my favorite sport — basketball. This is a sport that you can play anywhere.”

Go also drew attention to the interlinked advocacies he champions in the Senate.

“I am the chairman of the Committees on Sports, Health and Youth in the Senate. It’s all connected. If you are healthy, you’re physically fit, you’ll have a longer life.”

Go has long championed the welfare of Filipino athletes through an inclusive and grassroots-oriented approach to sports development.
