Vice President Sara Duterte is on a personal trip to Australia, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed on Friday, 20 June.

The OVP also said that the Vice President is expected to join a protest action calling for the release of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

"Vice President Sara Duterte is currently on a personal trip to Australia and will be attending the “Free Duterte Now” rally scheduled for 22 June 2025, in Melbourne," the OVP added.

No further details were provided regarding the exact date of her departure and when she will be returning home.

On 5 February, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte, with 215 lawmakers voting to adopt the articles of impeachment against her. She is accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.

The charges stem primarily from the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential and intelligence funds allocated to the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, both of which she concurrently led during the time in question.
