Malacañang on Monday said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is keen to carefully review the proposed Konektadong Pinoy Bill once it reaches his desk, in response to concerns raised by telecommunications companies regarding potential risks to national security and market competition.
In a media briefing, Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Office of the President has not yet received the final version of the bill for review.
However, she stressed that the President remains committed to a careful and balanced assessment of its provisions.
"As of now, we have been informed that no document has been given to the Office of the President. But rest assured that the President will evaluate every provision stated in the said Konektadong Pinoy Bill," Castro told Palace reporters.
Castro said the President remains attentive to public interest and aware of potential sector-specific concerns raised by the bill, which forms part of the administration’s priority legislative agenda.
"Asahan po natin na nakikinig ang Pangulo sa mga maaaring issues patungkol po dito sa bill na ito at babalansehin niya po ang para sa kabutihan ng kababayan natin, para din po kung may isyu about national security at kung mayroong negative impact sa telco in industry (We can expect that the President is listening to the possible issues related to this bill and will carefully weigh what is best for the welfare of our people, as well as consider any concerns about national security and potential negative impacts on the telecommunications industry)," she further emphasized.
Telecommunications operators have recently urged Malacañang to take a closer look at certain provisions of the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, warning that some clauses could weaken regulatory oversight and create vulnerabilities in cybersecurity and fair market competition.
Despite being listed as one of the administration’s priority measures, the bill now faces heightened scrutiny following these warnings.
Castro reiterated that Marcos remains open to dialogue and committed to upholding public interest and national security in any legislation he signs into law.
"Sa ngayon po ay wala pa po kasing naibibigay na dokumento. Ito naman po ay bibilisan naman po ng Pangulo basta naaral niya po ang bawat provision sa nasabing bill (As of now, no document has been submitted yet. However, the President will act on it promptly, as long as he has thoroughly studied each provision of the said bill)," she said.
