A man sought on a murder warrant was arrested in Barangay Malinta, where authorities recovered a .45-caliber firearm loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition and a 9-inch-long butterfly knife.

The Northern Police District identified the suspect only as “Jun.” He was wanted on a murder charge issued by Judge Rose Sharon Santiago Cordero-Abila of Regional Trial Court Branch 129 in April 2025.

Police Staff Sgt. Jonel Pangindian of the Northern Police District’s District Special Operations Unit (NPD-DSOU) said the suspect did not resist when officers recovered the weapons during a body search.

“Apparently, when asked why he was carrying firearms, the suspect only said he had a ‘next subject’ in Makati City but refused to provide further details,” Pangindian said.

He added that the firearm has been submitted for ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in other crimes, but results are not yet available.

In addition to the weapons, arresting officers recovered two mobile devices from the 33-year-old suspect.

“We saw a text message on the phone instructing him to return the firearm, but the sender’s number wasn’t saved and appeared without a name,” Pangindian said.

The suspect was previously arrested in April 2016 when officers found a gun and a grenade in his possession.

When asked about his motive for carrying firearms in broad daylight, the suspect declined to comment, stating, “I will just speak before the court.”

Beyond the outstanding murder warrant, the suspect now faces a new charge for violating Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
