The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) promoted 87 personnel in a simple ceremony held at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) compound in Muntinlupa City, in line with the celebration of the country’s 127th Independence Day.
The promotions included 33 commissioned officers, 54 non-commissioned personnel, and seven non-uniformed staff. The bureau also announced the appointment of five new non-uniformed personnel, 11 uniformed personnel, and one civilian lateral entrant to further augment its workforce.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the newly promoted individuals, citing their exemplary service and dedication to the bureau's mission of effective correctional management.
“Sinabi ko naman sa inyo na kapag kayo ay nagtrabaho ng tama at maayos ay mabibiyayaan kayo, pero kung kayo ay hindi aayos at magpapatuloy sa baluktot na gawain, ay matatanggal kayo. So ito na ‘yon,” Catapang said, emphasizing that hard work and integrity will always be recognized and rewarded.
He said the promotion of deserving personnel aims not only to motivate the individuals but also to set a benchmark for others in the organization. These new leaders are expected to uphold BuCor’s core values of integrity, professionalism, and responsibility, while guiding and inspiring their respective teams.
Catapang added that the mass promotion serves as a strategic initiative to improve operational efficiency and to better prepare the bureau for future challenges in correctional management.
He further noted that the promotion drive reflects BuCor’s vision of cultivating a culture of excellence and accountability—factors he said are vital to the organization’s operational success and overall morale.
Data from BuCor show that since Catapang assumed leadership of the agency, seven personnel have been dismissed, 93 suspended, and one demoted due to various infractions.
