Leyte quake victims get help from Go

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go dispatched his Malasakit Team last Monday to provide assistance to earthquake victims in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

In coordination with the local government of Padre Burgos led by Mayor Freitche Poblete, the team collaborated with the national government so that the beneficiaries could avail of post-disaster shelter assistance for households with totally damaged houses to help them rebuild, through a program the senator advocated for.

During the activity held at Padre Burgos Municipal Hall, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed snacks, shirts, caps, basketballs, and volleyballs.

As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography and a health reform crusader, Senator Go encouraged the affected families to take advantage of the Malasakit Centers. In Southern Leyte, Malasakit Center is located at Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital in Maasin City.

Go is the principal author and sponsor of RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. Currently, 167 Malasakit Centers operate nationwide, assisting patients with their medical expenses. According to the Department of Health, the program has provided aid to over 17 million Filipinos.
