Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Tuesday led the ceremonial distribution of laptops for public school teachers and teaching staff, alongside the rollout of school supplies and emergency kits for students, ahead of the new school year.
The distribution was held at Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School and is part of the city government’s broader initiative to enhance educational resources and disaster preparedness in public schools.
A total of 1,410 laptops will be provided to teachers and other teaching-related personnel in Makati’s public schools.
“Our teachers deserve the tools to help them adapt to modern teaching methods and technology,” Mayor Abby said. “These laptops will allow them to plan lessons better, access online resources, and manage their workloads more efficiently.”
The mayor also underscored her administration’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on parents by expanding support for students—from uniforms and shoes to daily meals under the city’s Project FEED.
“Wala na silang rason para hindi makapasok ang mga anak nila,” Binay said. “Noong una, sinasabi — baon? Meron na kaming libreng pagkain. May Project FEED kami. Tapos wala na ring problema sa uniporme. Libre na rin ang sapatos. So, there is no reason for parents to say their children dropped out or didn’t go to school.”
To support academic readiness and student well-being, school kits — including basic supplies and protective gear — were distributed to elementary, junior high, and senior high school students.
In a parallel effort to boost disaster preparedness, the city is also distributing 13,698 Emergency Go Bags, 12,179 adult hard hats, and 5,650 small hard hats to students. Each Go Bag contains essentials such as water, food bars, emergency blankets, flashlights, face masks, wound care items, and other emergency supplies.
“We are not just preparing our students academically but also making sure they are ready and safe when disaster strikes,” Binay said. “Safety is an essential part of every school environment.”
