Geely Auto has just rolled out its new “Five by Five” strategy — a plan focused on expanding its global presence through better design, smarter tech, and cleaner power. The announcement came with the unveiling of the Yinhe M9, a new six-seater flagship SUV that showcases where Geely is headed.
“The ‘Five by Five’ strategy marks a new phase in Geely’s global development, reflecting nearly three decades of technical knowledge and manufacturing capability,” Jerry Gan, ceo of Geely Auto Group, said. “With five design centers, five R&D hubs, five testing clusters, five powertrain technologies, and five AI ecosystems, we are building a complete and globally connected automotive platform focused on quality, sustainability and user experience.”
Geely’s global push begins with design. The company now operates five design centers in key cities like Shanghai, Milan and Coventry. These hubs aim to combine Eastern and Western design ideas to make cars that work for a global audience.
Next is research and development. Geely’s five R&D centers — including major ones in Frankfurt and Gothenburg — are where the company develops new technologies and mobility solutions.
Testing also plays a big part in the plan. Geely has 16 test sites worldwide, including its newly opened European Testing Base in Frankfurt. It also plans to open a safety testing center in Ningbo. These facilities help ensure that vehicles meet global standards for performance and safety.
When it comes to power, Geely is covering all bases. The company is developing five powertrain technologies: High-efficiency internal combustion engines, hybrids, pure electric systems, methanol fuel and battery-swapping setups.
Finally, the strategy includes five AI ecosystems. These will support everything from connected services to self-driving capabilities and cloud-based upgrades.
“This initiative strengthens our position in the global automotive landscape by building a resilient, world-class ecosystem,” Alex Nan, vice president of Geely Auto Group and CEO of Geely Auto International Corporation, said.
Alongside the strategy launch, Geely also introduced the Yinhe M9. This SUV brings the “Five by Five” plan to life, featuring the EM-P Super Hybrid system. It’s quick too — going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds while keeping fuel consumption at a low 4.8 L/100 km.
The M9 is the first to include Geely’s new AI Digital Chassis and G-Pilot H5 driving assist tech. Inside, the SUV debuts the brand’s next-generation AI Smart Cockpit, which runs on AI Cloud 2.0 and connects to a full suite of advanced safety and driver-assist features.
With the Yinhe M9, Geely is showing what its global future might look like: smart, safe, and ready for the road ahead.
