Filipino talent was once again spotlighted on the global stage. In Tokyo, celebrated fashion designer Paul Cabral presented the outstanding brilliance of Filipino culture through breathtaking masterpieces in a showcase of Philippine fashion entitled “Filipino Elegance” to Princess Takamado and Madam Yoshiko Ishiba, spouse of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, at The Kudan.

The event was held at the official residence of the Philippine Ambassador to Japan, the only Philippine National Historical Landmark outside the country.

The seasoned Cabral showcased a masterful and stunning 30-piece collection of contemporary classic Filipiñana and Filipino wear. The ingenious collective displayed the reimagined standard barong and terno through the use of the iconic piña textile.

Painted in modern natural, neutral and predominantly refreshing bright tones, the coveted pieces reflected the designer’s elevated sense of refinement. Hints of detailed embellishments featured the nation’s richness in the art of craft. History and elements of tradition were reinvented through the seamless fusion of contemporary tailoring. His awe-inspiring designs gloriously and graciously offered homage to Philippine cultural heritage and pride.

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Tokyo, the event was a key initiative under the Malikhaing Pinoy program, DTI’s flagship strategy to promote the Philippines’ creative economy globally.

“In the Bagong Pilipinas envisioned by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., creativity is not only art — it is innovation, industry and nation-building,” said Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque in her opening address. “Tonight, through fashion, we tell a story of heritage, hop and heart. We are showing the world that Filipino identity is timeless, relevant and worthy of the global stage.”

The platform for cultural diplomacy event was made possible through the leadership of Philippine Ambassador to Japan H.E. Mylene Garcia-Albano. “This is not just a fashion show — it’s a love letter to Filipino artisans, to our weavers, our designers and everyone who carries our stories in every stitch,” Secretary Roque emphasized.

Paul Cabral’s Filipino elegance in Kudan was more than just an evening of sophistication and refinement, but a moment of shared vision linking both countries through the universal language of creativity.
