The Atin Ito! coalition launched its third civilian mission to the West Philippine Sea on Saturday night, this time featuring a sea-based concert aimed at promoting peace and solidarity in the disputed waters.
Aboard the Kapitan Felix Oca, volunteers departed Manila for a five-day mission that includes the first-ever “Sea Concert for Peace and Solidarity” near Pag-asa Island. The concert is scheduled for 27 May.
K-pop groups I:Mond and HORI7ON are participating in the mission, along with international artists from Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Filipino performers Noel Cabangon, Ebe Dancel, the band Rouge, and rap group Morobeats are also part of the lineup.
In a Monday radio interview, Atin Ito! co-convenor Edicio dela Torre said the concert is intended to raise awareness and public interest in issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea. He described it as “more [of] dramatic action” than just a symbolic one that reflects growing support for the cause.
“Emotionally, many of our fellow Filipinos are very happy. People are very open to the issue. Emotions aren’t enough, but they are very important,” dela Torre said.
The coalition will also deliver supplies to Filipino fishermen operating near Pag-asa Island.
This marks Atin Ito!’s third civilian mission to the area, following similar efforts in December 2023 and May 2024.
