Brooke Van Sickle has been the steady driving force in Petro Gazz’s campaign since she first suited up for the Angels a year ago.
Displaying her all-around brilliance, passion, dedication and leadership all season long, the high-scoring hitter’s efforts will be rewarded with the distinctive honor of being named as the first-ever Season Most Valuable Player award in the inaugural Pilipinas Live Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Awards Night on Wednesday at the Novotel.
The outside hitter led the charge in the Angels’ triumphant dismantling of Creamline’s dynastic rule in the 2024-2025 All-Filipino Conference in a memorable and thrilling finals series that went the full three games.
Her huge contribution in handing the franchise a historic all-local crown breakthrough highlighted Van Sickle’s productive second season in the pro ranks, enough to claim the highest individual honor presented by Arena Plus.
The 27-year-old winger powered the Angels in slicing through the competition in the record-setting longest PVL tournament that ran for almost six months, including a denial of the Cool Smashers’ five-peat AFC bid.
Van Sickle topped the polls with a weighted score of 227.6 points, calculated from 50 percent statistical points, 30 percent media votes, and 20 percent team votes.
She earned 116.3 statistical points, 66.3 media votes, and 45 points from coaches and team captains — more than enough to edge out Creamline’s MVP duo of Bernadeth Pons and Michele Gumabao.
Reinforced Conference MVP Pons placed a close second with a total of 205.6 points, built on 122.8 statistical points, 50.4 from the media, and 32.4 from coaches and team captains.
Meanwhile, Invitationals MVP Gumabao settled for a distant third with 151.4 points, drawn from 92.5 statistical points, 35.1 media votes, and 23.8 team votes.
It was a season of highs and lows for Petro Gazz.
The Angels saw their ‘three-peat’ bid shattered in the Reinforced Conference quarterfinal and missed out on the mid-year Invitational tilt.
But Petro Gazz bounced back mightily behind a sharper and more focused Van Sickle. The Angels proved they had what it took to rise and finish strong, even after a stumble.
Amid the twists and turns of their roller-coaster season, the Hilo, Hawaii-born spiker remained a steady presence. Her impeccable performance was one of the reliable constants Petro Gazz could count on through every exhilarating high and challenging low.
Her remarkable consistency also propelled her to claim the Best Outside Hitter honors in both the Reinforced and AFC, capped by a second consecutive Conference MVP plum in the all-local tourney.
Van Sickle finished third in scoring, registering 349 points built on 296 attacks, 30 kill blocks, and a league-leading 23 aces.
She led the league in service winners with an average of 0.38 aces per set and ranked second in spiking with an impressive 36.86% success rate.
Van Sickle also proved to be a reliable presence on defense, placing third in receiving with a 35.37% efficiency and sixth in digging with 2.89 digs per set.
