A convoy of electric cars quietly made its way up to Tagaytay yesterday, marking VinFast Philippines’ very first media drive. The spotlight was on the VF 6, the Vietnamese automaker’s newest subcompact crossover SUV, but a few other models, the VF 5, VF 7, and VF 9, joined the road trip, too.
The journey kicked off in Metro Manila and snaked through South Luzon Expressway, CALAX, and the greenery of Nuvali, all the way to the cooler slopes of Tagaytay and Silang. Behind the wheel were members of the motoring press and content creators, with none other than Milo Rivera, local racing champ and driving instructor, leading the pack.
“This media drive marks the first of many immersive experiences we plan to host with the Philippine motoring and content creation community. We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of our media and KOL partners who joined us to get behind the wheel of the VF 6 and our full EV lineup,” Doan Thi Mai Anh, chief executive officer of VinFast Philippines, said.
“This event is part of our long-term effort to build stronger relationships and foster deeper understanding of what VinFast stands for: Accessible, intelligent, and sustainable mobility. We are just getting started,” she added.
If the brand sounds eager, it’s because they are. VinFast is the newest EV player in the local market, but it’s already making waves. The VF 6 officially launched at the Manila International Auto Show earlier this year and now comes in two trims: Eco at P1,419,000 and Plus at P1,610,000.
The Plus variant packs a punch, with 150 kW of power and up to 310 Nm of torque, more than enough for smooth overtakes and confident sprints on the highway. But it’s not all muscle. The VF 6 also shows a softer, smarter side with a suite of 20 driver-assist features: adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and more, all of which help take the stress out of daily driving, especially in the Metro’s stop-and-go traffic.
Inside, the VF 6 feels surprisingly spacious for its size. The long wheelbase (2,730 mm) helps it comfortably seat five adults, and the ride is smooth even on rough roads. The dashboard is anchored by a 12.9-inch touchscreen that handles everything from smartphone connectivity to remote climate control, a useful feature in this tropical heat.
The VF 6 promises up to 480 kilometers on a full charge, enough to cover a Manila to Baguio trip with juice to spare. And with VinFast’s charging partner, V-GREEN, planning 15,000 ports across the country by year’s end, the future’s looking more convenient by the day.
One of the biggest draws of the VF 6 is its long-term affordability. No more oil changes, less frequent servicing, and lower energy costs mean you’ll save more in the long run compared to a traditional gas-powered SUV.
VinFast has already launched several EVs in the Philippines, from the tiny VF 3 to the big VF 9, and the VF 6 now fills the sweet spot for those looking for something compact but capable. It’s a car that’s already gained traction in Vietnam and Europe, and now, it’s turning heads on Philippine roads, too.
The company is also stepping up its after-sales support. VinFast plans to open more than 60 showrooms and 100 EV service centers nationwide this year, making sure its customers have help within reach. It’s all part of their “For a Green Future” mission, which just earned them a spot on TIME Magazine’s list of the best companies in the Asia-Pacific region.
