Las Piñas City Mayor-elect and current Vice Mayor April Aguilar has ordered city hall personnel to remove remaining campaign tarpaulins hung on posts and other designated poster areas.
According to Aguilar, the move is in compliance with Commission on Elections rules requiring the removal of campaign materials within five days after the election and to clean the streets and walls of the city.
The same is being done in Valenzuela City, where heaps of election campaign materials have been collected.
The local government unit plans to recycle these into bags, aprons, and wallets, which will greatly support the city’s livelihood programs—one of its key advocacies.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has preventively suspended for 90 days the driver’s license of the cop.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, said a show cause order (SCO) was already issued to the police sergeant who was also directed to submit a written explanation on why his driver’s license should not be revoked.
The police officer involved was reportedly assigned to a polling center in Manila as part of security operations during the election period but at the time, he was reportedly not wearing the standard helmet.
During the incident, the traffic altercation between the policeman and a civilian motorist escalated, especially when the latter allegedly tried to assault the cop, which prompted the policeman to draw his gun.
In the SCO signed by LTO-IID chief Renante Melitante, the policeman was informed of the violations he committed — Mandatory Use of Motorcycle Helmets (Section 3 of RA 10054), Obstruction of Traffic (Sec. 54 of RA 4136) and why your driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle (Sec. 27 (a) of RA 4136).
He was also directed to surrender his driver’s license immediately on or before the scheduled hearing on 21 May.
“Failure to appear and submit the written comments/explanations as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the SCO read.
