Pacquiao in training mode

The ground at Manny Pacquiao’s palatial home in General Santos has been shaking the past couple of days.

But the tremors that are being felt are not tectonic in origin. Nor is it volcanic.

The vibrations have been traced to a specific area in the mansion.

The location is the sports complex that is within the sprawling property where Pacquiao has been seen hitting the heavy bag with impunity as he awaits official word from Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) as to the status of his planned world title shot on 19 July comeback in Las Vegas.

While on standby status, Pacquiao, 46, is not wasting precious time doing nothing.

On the day after the elections, he got dressed for a game of badminton with wife Jinkee before heading to the basketball court for a series of games lasting hours.

He shadowboxed, too, as if to see and feel if he still has it.

Convinced that he can still pull the trigger, Pacquiao struck the heavy bag.

And that was when people around him took note of one thing.

“The speed is still there. The power, too,” said one observer who was given the chance to see Pacquiao’s first workout in close to a year.

American dealmaker Sean Gibbons, who is in General Santos City, told DAILY TRIBUNE that an advisory from PBC is expected next week.

“News of the fight is out there but we are waiting for PBC,” Gibbons said.

Pacquiao hasn’t fought professionally since being upset by Yordenis Ugas of Cuba in August 2021.

Since then, the eight-division legend has engaged in exhibitions bouts in Seoul and Tokyo.

With a little over two months before the proposed date, Pacquiao is not about to dilly-dally because time seems to be working against him.

Early next month, Pacquiao will be on the road as he is set to be enshrined into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York, making it hard for him to conduct a full training session.

Still, Pacquiao is doing the best he can to make sure he is not idle.

All it takes for Pacquiao to go full-throttle in training is the official word from PBC.

Meanwhile, the earth is going to keep on trembling over at the Pacquiao residence.
