The Philippines will deploy additional peacekeepers to United Nations (UN) missions, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. announced Thursday, as the move underscores the country’s commitment to fostering a “safer and more secure world.”

Teodoro represented the Philippines at the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting (PKMM) in Berlin, where over 150 high-level delegations discussed the future of UN peacekeeping operations and reaffirmed their support for addressing capability gaps.

“We are honored to announce our new pledges — the deployment of one Light Infantry Battalion from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and one Formed Police Unit under the UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System (PCRS),” Teodoro said.

He added that the Philippines will also continue to deploy Military Observers and Individual Police Officers to support UN missions globally.

These new deployments are in addition to the Philippines’ existing commitments, which include a Quick Reaction Force Company and a Military Construction Engineering Company.

Regarding capacity-building, Teodoro announced that the Philippines will host UN Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) Training Courses in the ASEAN region from 2029 to 2030.

The Philippines also pledged to provide UN-certified Military Mobile Training Teams to enhance peacekeeper preparedness for evolving challenges.

Furthermore, the Philippines will host the 2025 ASEAN Peacekeeping Staff Exercise this September, aimed at better equipping ASEAN troops for safer and more effective UN peacekeeping missions.

“The Philippines stands ready to contribute to a safer and more secure world as a trusted partner, pathfinder, and peacemaker in the pursuit of lasting and sustainable peace,” Teodoro said.

His participation in the PKMM in Berlin reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to global peace and security as a founding member of the UN and a significant troop-contributing nation.

The Philippines is currently vying for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, with Teodoro highlighting the nation’s readiness to actively address global security issues.
