‘Doble Plaka’ law amendments hailed

Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito disclosed that amendments to the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, or “Doble Plaka Law,” have been enacted, eliminating the requirement for front-mounted license plates on motorcycles.

Ejercito, a motorcycle enthusiast, said in a Facebook post that Republic Act 12209, which he principally authored, is now law.

“What we’ve long fought for — together with our fellow riders — is now officially a law,” he wrote.

The new law also reduces penalties for violations, capping fines at P5,000 or P10,000 for most offenses.

Ejercito said his goal was to end what he called discrimination against motorcycle riders.

“I’m happy to share that this is one of the promises I made during the campaign — and now, we have fulfilled it. This proves that the voice of riders matters and that we can change the law to make it fair and humane,” said the senator.

He also expressed gratitude to his Senate colleagues and motorcycle groups for their support.

“We will continue to stand with the rider community. Whether on the road or in the law — you’ve got me by your side,” Ejercito said.
