Operatives from the Makati City Police arrested a man Sunday night who allegedly posed as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and fired a gun at officers, authorities said Monday.
The suspect, identified only as “Arleen,” was apprehended near a mall in Barangay Bel-Air and according to reports, members of the Southern Police District’s (SPD) District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) and the Makati City Police were conducting an anti-robbery operation along Nicanor Garcia Street when the suspect approached them and identified himself as an NBI agent.
The man reportedly asked the operatives if they were police officers. Upon confirmation, “Arleen” allegedly told them he possessed a firearm and then asked, “Do you want me to kill you?” before firing at them with a Glock 17 pistol.
The officers took cover, and a brief foot chase ensued. The suspect fled toward his residence but surrendered to police after a short standoff.
Police recovered the suspect’s pistol and three loaded magazines.
The Makati City Police said that the suspect is in custody, and appropriate criminal charges are pending. A follow-up investigation is underway to determine any additional involvement or affiliations.
Makati City police chief Col. Jean dela Torre lauded the operation, stating it “reflects the unwavering commitment of the Southern Police District and the Makati CPS to safeguard our communities from criminal elements.”
She added that the “courage and restraint shown by the operatives prevented further harm and ensured the safety of the public.”
