Power reserves secure — DoE

The energy sector assured Sunday that there will be a sufficient electricity supply for Monday’s national and local elections, with power reserves exceeding demand across all grids and round-the-clock operations in place to prevent disruptions.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported normal operations of all transmission lines and facilities, adding that the grid capacity and demand remained stable, with Luzon having a capacity of 17,195 megawatts against a demand of 10,028 MW.

Meantime, the Visayas recorded 3,138 MW in capacity versus a demand of 1,957 MW, and Mindanao had 3,615 MW with a demand of 1,835 MW.

Also, the Department of Energy (DoE) announced that the Energy Task Force Election (ETFE) has begun 24/7 operations to safeguard the integrity of the vote.

“All hands are on deck. The entire energy sector is fully mobilized and working in full coordination to ensure an unimpeded and reliable power supply, along with adequate fuel availability, for the 2025 midterm elections,” Energy Secretary Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla said.

The ETFE, led by the DoE, includes government agencies, the private transmission concessionaire, generation companies, distribution utilities and other institutions. Its task is to enforce preemptive measures and rapid response protocols to maintain stable power throughout the election period.

As part of preparations, the task force activated contingency protocols, conducted nationwide readiness checks, and confirmed sufficient power reserves.

Sector command centers, including those of NGCP, the National Electrification Administration, Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the DoE’s Energy Sector Emergency Operations Center, will operate nonstop until Tuesday.

These centers are equipped with real-time monitoring systems to detect grid vulnerabilities and enable the rapid deployment of technical teams.

The department also urged the public to promptly report any power-related incidents or outages, stressing that vigilance helps ensure a swift response and prevents prolonged disruptions.
