Suarez, Navarrete brace for battle

The stage is set for Charly Suarez’s shot at immortality in San Diego, California.

Facing defending champion Emanuel Navarrete of Mexico for the first time during a presser, the Filipino challenger swears he is coming to win.

“I prayed for this fight. And here it is. The opportunity has come, and I have taken it. And we won’t lose,” he said two days before he attempts to knock the World Boxing Organization super-featherweight crown off Navarrete’s head at the Pechanga Arena.

The two faced off following the Q&A and Navarrete looked supremely confident while Suarez, a massive underdog, appeared a bit embarrassed by all the attention he’s been getting.

Still, the unbeaten 36-year-old from Davao del Sur, believes he has what it takes to get the job done.

Navarrete, who was all smiles during the staredown, sounded diplomatic.

“I prepared for a great fight. We know that Suarez is coming for my title. So, I want a great fight so everyone can see I’m ready to continue on the path of victory…we have to defend my title first. We’re going to work hard and take the title home. After, we’ll see if I stay at 130 (pounds) or move up again.”
