Angkas founder and Angkasangga Partylist first nominee, George Royeca, is calling on the Department of Transportation (DoTr) to issue a Department Order that will allow motorcycle taxis (MC Taxis) to continue operating legally after the pilot program ended in 2024.
With the Motorcycle Taxi Bill still pending in Congress, Royeca urged the agency to act quickly to avoid disruptions that could impact thousands of riders and commuters who depend on the service for their livelihoods and daily commutes.
“As someone who’s been with our bikers from the very beginning, I know how urgent this is — not just for the riders, but for the commuting public,” Royeca said.
In a recent meeting with DoTr officials — captured in a photo shared by the department — Royeca discussed the sector’s concerns and thanked DoTr Secretary Vince Dizon for being open to the proposal.
The DoTr confirmed in a social media post that it would issue a Department Order to allow MC Taxi services to continue legally while awaiting a permanent law. The department acknowledged the critical role motorcycle taxis play in providing affordable and efficient transportation across Metro Manila.
“The permanent solution for MC taxis requires action from Congress. That’s why we’re committed to working with lawmakers to find viable solutions that benefit both riders and commuters,” Dizon said.
Royeca, a long-time advocate for transport modernization and rider welfare, welcomed the decision and called it a necessary, though temporary, step.
“This isn’t just a policy — it’s a commitment. We’ll keep pushing until motorcycle taxis are permanently recognized by law,” he said.
