A Mother’s Day elude: First Ladies celebrate with music

Via Bianca Ramones

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former First Lady Imelda Marcos led "Songs My Mother Taught Me," a special Mother’s Day-themed concert that filled the historic Goldenberg Mansion with melody, memory, and maternal devotion on Friday.

The event, part of the Goldenberg Concert Series, turned music into a love letter for mothers everywhere.

The concert paid homage to the nurturing spirit of motherhood through a carefully curated repertoire—from Brahms’ timeless Wiegenlied to the soul-stirring Sa Ugoy ng Duyan by Lucio San Pedro.

Each piece resonated with stories of home, lullabies once sung at bedtime, and the quiet strength of women who shape generations.

The First Ladies, seated side by side, listened in serene reflection, moved by the emotion threaded into every note.

Highlight performances by pianist Rudolf Golez and violinist Sara Maria Gonzales elevated the tribute with artistic depth, while local folk lullabies like Ili-ili Tulog Anay and Si Nanay Si Tatay Di Co Babayaan brought a uniquely Filipino warmth to the celebration.

Adding a modern twist, the evening also featured classical string renditions of Sweet Child of Mine and Take On Me, proving that the essence of motherhood—timeless, tender, and enduring—transcends genre.

These surprises delighted the audience and kept the program fresh and emotionally engaging.

As the final encore faded into the cool May evening, the First Ladies offered their applause with visible warmth.
