Army fetes Doña Aurora on death anniversary

BALER, Aurora — The Philippine Army took part in a Wreath-Laying Ceremony to commemorate the 76th death anniversary of Doña Aurora Antonia Aragon Quezon, former First Lady of the Philippines at the Doña Aurora Shrine in Barangay Labi, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija last Monday.

Lt. Col. Aries A Quinto, Commanding Officer of the 91 Infantry Battalion, served as the gracious Military Host for the ceremony as the descendants of the Quezon family, and representatives from the Aurora and Nueva Ecija local government units were present at the commemoration.

The ceremony was made more significant by the attendance of Hon. Ricardo I. Padilla, Municipal Mayor of Bongabon, Nueva Ecija; along with other esteemed LGU officials and community leaders.

Brigadier General Eugenio Julio C. Osias IV PA, commander of the 703rd Infantry Brigade, extend his deepest appreciation to all military personnel, LGU officials, partner organizations, and guests for their presence and sincere participation in the commemoration.

“Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon, as First Lady and civic leader, embodied the virtues of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to national service. Her advocacy for social justice, women’s welfare, and education during a turbulent period in our nation’s history continues to resonate in our collective conscience.”

“As we remember her tragic passing, we also celebrate the ideals she stood for peace, unity, and selfless service to the Filipino people. Her legacy transcends time and serves as a guiding light for all public servants, members of the armed forces, and every Filipino who aspires to make a positive impact on our nation,” he said.

“Let this commemoration serve as a reminder that the sacrifices of the past should not be forgotten but should inspire us to act with integrity, bravery, and love for country. May the memory of Doña Aurora Quezon continue to inspire the next generation to embrace a life of service and nation-building,” he added.

The event featured a commemorative Mass and floral offering ceremony honoring Doña Aurora’s life and legacy. The Philippine Army honored her heroics and enduring legacy with full military honors, including a 21-gun salute.

The commemoration served as a powerful reminder that the legacy of Doña Aurora lives on in the province that bears her name, and in the hearts of Filipinos who continue to draw inspiration from her life of selfless service.

“Her unwavering dedication to public service and her tireless efforts in advancing the welfare of her countrymen continue to inspire generations,” Quinto said.
