Senator Christopher “Bong” Go reaffirmed his strong support for the motorcycle riding community’s welfare, safety and livelihood during the Angkas Safety Fiesta held Sunday, 27 April, in Cainta, Rizal.

The event, led by George Royeca of the Angkasangga Partylist, gathered around 1,000 leaders from various rider groups, advocates, influencers and stakeholders.

A motorcycle enthusiast even before entering public service, Go expressed solidarity with riders and stressed the importance of initiatives like the Angkas Safety Fiesta in promoting road safety and uplifting livelihoods.

“This Angkas Safety Fiesta is proof of our collective efforts to prioritize the safety of motorists and passengers,” Go said. “Events like this are very important to expand the knowledge and discipline of our riders.”

Go praised Angkas for promoting safer roads while providing innovative livelihood opportunities and recalled his support for their advocacies since the platform’s early days.

‘We are not only protecting you on the road — we are also looking after your health.’

He emphasized the growing importance of motorcycle ride-hailing services due to affordability and mobility, vowing to continue pushing legislation for rider welfare. He cited Senate Bill No. 2555, which amends the controversial “Doble Plaka” Law by requiring only a rear plate, and Senate Bill No. 1184, protecting delivery riders from fake bookings and non-payment.

“As a legislator, I will continue to fight for the safety and rights of our riders,” he assured, adding his support for institutionalizing motorcycles-for-hire under proper safety regulations.

As Senate Committee on Health Chairman, Go also encouraged riders to enroll in the PhilHealth Konsulta Program for free consultations and health benefits.

“We are not only protecting you on the road — we are also looking after your health,” he said. “Every Filipino is a PhilHealth member, and it is your right to avail of health benefits.”

Go also credited his partnership with Angkas to their shared mission of empowering riders, citing advice from former President Rodrigo Duterte: “Put the welfare of the Filipino first, and you will never go wrong.”

If elected for another Senate term, Go vowed to work even closer with rider advocates to strengthen protections such as health benefits, insurance and livelihood support.

Earlier that day, Go led a motorcade in Pangasinan, warmly welcomed by residents — further highlighting his commitment to bringing government services closer to the people.

“We will continue serving you because service is my passion — and I believe that service to people is service to God,” he said. TDT
