Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya is making bold promises for the future of Barangay Kalawaan, aiming to solve the decades-old land ownership issue that has long affected many local families.
For over 40 years, land parcels were distributed to landless Pasigueños under the late former Mayor Emiliano Caruncho Jr., but many residents still lack official titles to their properties.
Speaking to local residents during a community caucus in the resettlement area on Saturday, Discaya acknowledged the ongoing problem. “I’ve heard that there’s an issue with land here in Kalawaan — land ownership has been a long-standing concern,” she shared. “Kap. Jess [Gaviola] mentioned that there are issues in the resettlement area, and we are here to fix that.”
If elected, Discaya pledged to resolve the land ownership issue within one year. “If we’re fortunate enough to win, we will make sure that within a year, this problem will be solved. You will finally have the titles to your land,” she promised.
Discaya made it clear that this isn’t just a campaign promise, but a personal commitment she is passionate about. “This is not just a promise. This is a dream I want to make a reality if you’ll allow me to serve you,” she said, asking the crowd for their support: “Can I count on your help, Barangay Kalawaan? Will you be with us until May 12?”
The response from the crowd was overwhelmingly positive, with thousands of supporters enthusiastically shouting “Yes!”
Interestingly, former Mayor Caruncho, who initiated the land distribution, is the grandfather of Iyo Caruncho-Bernardo, Discaya’s running mate for vice mayor.
The event, organized by Team Kaya This, attracted around 2,500 supporters to Barangay Kalawaan, one of Pasig’s largest barangays with 47,000 registered voters.
