Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna reaffirmed her trust in the rule of law and due process as she responded to the Commission on Elections' (COMELEC) issuance of a show cause order (SCO) regarding alleged election violations.
In a recent statement, Mayor Lacuna assured the public that she and her team will comply with the COMELEC directive as soon as they officially receive it. The SCO stems from accusations of vote-buying and alleged misuse of government resources during the campaign period.
"We will comply with the COMELEC’s show cause order as soon as we receive a copy, because we believe in due process," Lacuna stated. "The COMELEC is rightfully giving us the opportunity to address, dispute, and disprove the allegations brought forward. We are ready."
The COMELEC, through its Task Force Kontra Bigay led by Commissioner Teopisto Elnas Jr., has issued show cause orders to several local candidates, including six mayoral hopefuls and 11 other local aspirants across the country.
Mayor Lacuna, one of the named officials, emphasized her commitment to transparent governance and continued public service despite the allegations.
"To my beloved fellow Manileños, please don’t worry—your city government remains fully committed to delivering fair, honest, and inclusive public service, regardless of political affiliation or social standing," she said.
She also rallied the support of her team and constituents, especially those aligned with the Asenso Manileño movement.
"To my fellow Asenso Manileño supporters, our volunteers, and everyone who stands for honest and sincere governance in all six districts of Manila—let us remain steadfast. The fight for continued progress and a better future for all Manileños goes on."
"In the end, truth and integrity will prevail," Lacuna concluded.
