Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay is gaining ground in her Senate bid, securing major endorsements this week from local leaders in both Cebu and Pampanga.
In Cebu City on Tuesday, Binay met with 31 mayors from various cities and municipalities across the province in a show of force that underscored growing regional support for her candidacy. During the event, she reiterated one of her top legislative priorities: amending the 1991 Local Government Code to empower LGUs and improve their capacity to respond to the needs of their constituents.
“Local governments are the frontliners of service,” Binay said. “They deserve the tools, authority, and flexibility to serve their people more effectively.”
Also present at the Cebu event were Congresswoman Rhea Gullas and Congressman Peter John Calderon. The day followed an earlier high-profile endorsement from Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, boosting Binay’s visibility in one of the country’s most vote-rich provinces.
Just a day later, Binay brought her campaign to Pampanga, where she received a warm welcome and the formal endorsement of Governor Dennis Pineda, Vice Governor Lilia Pineda, and dozens of other local officials during the final leg of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas rally series.
“I’m truly grateful for the support from my fellow public servants and the people of Pampanga,” Binay told the crowd. “Your trust inspires me to keep pushing for real, meaningful change.”
Throughout the rallies, Binay outlined her legislative platform, which centers on health, education and labor. She vowed to push for free maintenance medicines for all, especially senior citizens, calling it a long-overdue measure. On education, she stressed the need to strengthen early childhood learning by improving day care centers and ensuring children develop reading and math skills even before entering Grade 1. By the time they reach Grade 3, she said, they should be fluent readers and confident in English and Math.
Binay also emphasized her plan to champion tax exemptions for overtime pay, 13th month pay, and other bonuses — a move she said would help increase workers’ take-home pay and ease their financial burdens.
“It’s time we ease the burden on hardworking Filipinos,” Binay said. “They earn those bonuses — let’s help them keep more of it.”
Binay’s Pampanga campaign trail included stops in Angeles City, San Fernando, and several other municipalities, where she was welcomed by local leaders including Angeles Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., Guagua Mayor Anthony “Tonton” Torres, Lubao Mayor Esmeralda “Esmie” Pineda, Masantol Mayor Jose Antonio Bustos and many others.
Across both Cebu and Pampanga, the show of support was clear: Abby Binay’s push for accessible healthcare, quality education, and economic reforms is resonating with local leaders and grassroots communities alike.
