A bomb threat prompted the City of Malabon University (CMU) to suspend its afternoon classes Monday.
The local university said in a statement that it received the bomb threat via email around 10 a.m.
“A thorough risk assessment, conducted in consultation with local law enforcement agencies, indicated that the threat warranted immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus,” CMU president Dr. Glen de Leon said, adding that the class suspension allowed authorities to conduct a more comprehensive search and investigation.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) immediately responded to the scene and cordoned off the university upon receiving information about the threat.
Law enforcement and school officials are currently investigating the potential individuals behind the email containing the bomb threat.
CMU said further updates will be provided through the university’s social media channels, email, text messages, and website.
Meantime, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval urged students to remain calm, assuring that the local government is exerting all efforts to ensure the university’s and students’ safety.
“We are doing our best to maintain order and ensure the safety of Malabon City. We urge residents to immediately report any suspicious activity observed in their area,” Sandoval said.
