The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified security operations at ports and tourist destinations nationwide, deploying up to 17,000 personnel to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience for travelers.
PCG Deputy Spokesperson Commander Michael John Encina said these personnel, mobilized under "heightened alert" status, are tasked with conducting pre-departure and resort inspections.
The PCG has also deployed Coast Guard Auxiliaries to Malasakit Help Desks and K-9 units to further increase security measures in ports and resorts.
Encina added that the PCG is implementing security measures in close coordination with local government units (LGUs), municipal and city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, and coastal barangays.
“So, malawak po ang ginagawa ng PCG ngayon at paghahanda upang ma-ensure at matiyak po natin na ang Mahal na Araw ay magiging safe and secure sa ating mga bakasyunista at turista (The PCG is doing extensive preparations to ensure that the Holy Week will be safe and secure for our vacationers and tourists),” he said.
Additionally, beach resorts and recreational areas underwent safety checks to ensure they have authorized lifeguards, medical clinics, and first aid responders.
The PCG has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert from April 13 to April 20 to manage the influx of port passengers.
The seafaring public can reach out to the PCG via its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (0927-560-7729) for inquiries, concerns, or clarifications about sea travel protocols and regulations during Holy Week.
