Former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Kiko Pangilinan called on fellow candidates to use the Holy Week as a time for reflection — to focus on genuine public service and solutions to the nation’s problems.
Speaking to media during a campaign stop in Pangasinan, Pangilinan emphasized that in the final 27 days before the May 12 elections, he will stay focused on his platform centered on food security and lowering food prices.
“My prayer is that we find solutions to the country’s problems, and that our leaders rise to the occasion instead of indulging in endless bickering and infighting,” he said.
With less than a month before voters head to the polls, Pangilinan underscored that hunger remains his top concern.
“The country is in disarray. Let’s focus on solutions. Let’s address hunger. Hunger knows no color. It really doesn’t,” he said.
“When you’re hungry, whether you’re pink, green, or red — it’s still hunger. That’s where we should focus our efforts, instead of adding more political noise and division. People are already overwhelmed,” he added.
Pangilinan also appealed for unity among candidates, urging them to work together for the country’s welfare.
“The public is already confused and exhausted. What we should do is avoid adding to the chaos. Like I always say, calm down — Kiko is here. Let’s look for solutions. That’s what this campaign should be about. Let’s not make things worse,” he said.
Pangilinan has been the target of disinformation and trolling online, after a clip from his food blog went viral showing him eating rice and carabao milk off a pot lid — a scene he says is tied to his Kapampangan upbringing.
Despite the smear campaign, Pangilinan has urged the Commission on Elections to consider suspending troll accounts during the campaign period and vowed to stay focused on spreading his message to voters.
“I’ll keep pushing for food security and affordable prices. That’s what matters to families struggling every day,” he said.
