Gan with the win: Nicole’s journey has just begun

TDT

At just 14 years old, Nicole Gaisano Gan is already making waves in junior golf. A student at Immaculate Conception Academy, Nicole has consistently proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with, winning tournaments despite limited practice time due to her academic commitments.

Though she may be petite and not known for her power off the tee, Nicole’s strength lies in her incredible touch around the greens. She’s often called a “surgeon” when it comes to chipping and putting. Combine that with her sharp golf IQ and a big heart, and it’s no surprise she’s been impressing everyone in the golf community.

Nicole’s path to success hasn’t been without its challenges. As a club champion at both Wack Wack and Tagaytay Midlands, she’s had to rely on hard work, determination and a passion for the game to get to where she is today. It’s especially impressive considering the balancing act she has to do with her academic responsibilities.

Her parents, especially her dad, Oliver Gan, who’s also the president of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, have been incredibly supportive. They ensure she has the resources and encouragement to succeed in both her academic studies and golf.

But let’s not forget, Nicole is still 14, and like most teens, she’s navigating the awkward phase of adolescence. While she’s figuring out who she is and what she wants to become, she remains incredibly grounded.

After a round, you’ll often find her glued to her phone, like any other teenager, but even when she’s off the course, Nicole’s infectious smile has a way of lighting up the room.

One of Nicole’s standout performances recently came at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Qualifying Tournament at Luisita Golf and Country Club in Concepcion, Tarlac. This tournament is a key event for rising stars in junior golf across the Asia-Pacific region.

Nicole started strong on the second day of the event and finished with a solid two-over-par 74, which earned her the top spot in the girls’ division. She finished three strokes ahead of Blair Uyking from Davao, who took second place.

Despite a few hiccups on the back nine, including some challenging holes, Nicole’s consistent play and timely birdies were enough to secure the win.

“I haven’t been playing well since the year started,” Nicole shared after the round. “But those three birdies in a row really helped boost my confidence.” Her performance wasn’t just a win on the scorecard — it was also a testament to her resilience and mental toughness, qualities that will undoubtedly help her as she continues to develop as a golfer.

This weekend, Nicole will have another chance to showcase her talent at the JGFP International Interclub as a member of Team TGA Philippines. She’ll be joining a talented squad that includes former world junior champion Wirada Tawinsang from Thailand, as well as Jadar Kiatphonsiri and Nacha Santhitsumpun. It’s another opportunity for Nicole to prove herself against some of the best young golfers in the region.

Looking ahead, Nicole will have more than a month to prepare for the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championships at the Hong Kong Golf Club.

This prestigious event will be yet another chance for her to demonstrate her skill and determination on the international stage.

In many ways, Nicole Gaisano Gan represents the future of Philippine golf.

With her unique combination of talent, determination, and a heart that never gives up, she’s well on her way to even greater success.

As she continues to balance school, family and golf, there’s no doubt that this young golfer’s journey is only just beginning.
