As the fashion capital of the world, Paris is the ultimate dream destination for every designer to showcase their collection in. And as far as dreams go, Limuel Vilela and Alvin Francia have realized theirs in a fabulous way.
The dynamic duo’s brand, Spotlight Couronne Internationale Inc. Philippines (SCI PH), presented its fashion collection “Doux Rêve” at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée on 8 March. It was co-presented by SCI PH Canada and powered by HiTech Moda.
SCI PH is founded by Filipino-Canadians Limuel Vilela, a producer/designer and former model, and Alvin Masangkay Francia, an aviation expert and educator, who is the company’s chief operating officer and chief creative director. The duo produces Calgary International Fashion and Arts Week, Calgary Kids Fashion Week, Edmonton Kids Fashion Week and Winnipeg Kids Fashion Week.
Before the show in Paris, France, the brand showcased a collection during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
“Each collection is uniquely inspired by its setting. ‘Doux Rêve’ embodies Parisian elegance with a dreamlike quality. Our NYFW pieces are more urban and bold, and Calgary fuses modernity with a strong cultural narrative,” explained Vilela.
On their struggles and challenges of being Filipino-Canadian designers, Francia said: “Balancing cultural heritage with contemporary market demands can be challenging. Breaking into international markets while maintaining a unique identity requires resilience and adaptability.”
In July 2025, they will be a major part of the milestone event, Marriott Moments A-Fair Luxuriant Expo and the 9th Annual Calgary International Fashion and Arts Week (CIFAW), a gathering of the best weddings and events suppliers, and a showcase of the works of imported and exported world-class fashion designers and visual artists at the MGBX Exhibition Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom, the grandest hotel-based MICE facility in the country today, serving as their official home.
“Manila, we are coming ‘home,’” declared Vilela and Francia. “Masarap bumalik sa tahanan na humubog sa’yo bilang tao at ibahagi ang resulta ng iyong pakikipagsapalaran, paglalakbay at tagumpay! (It’s a wonderful feeling to return to the home that shaped you as a person and to share the fruits of your struggles, journeys, and triumphs!) We’re coming home!”
But first, the duo recalled their unforgettable experience fulfilling their dream of showcasing a collection in Paris and the challenges they underwent during their fashion journey:
“Our collection is titled ‘Doux Rêve,’ which means ‘Sweet Dream’ in French. Paris holds a special place in our hearts, with its timeless beauty and enchanting vibes inspiring this collection. ‘Doux Rêve’ reflects a dreamy, elegant aesthetic that blends classic Parisian sophistication with a modern edge.
“The silhouettes are a harmonious blend of structured tailoring and soft, flowing elements. We use luxurious fabrics like silk organza, tulle and jacquard to create depth and contrast. The collection’s color palette includes soft nudes, champagne, muted golds and delicate blush tones, enhancing the ethereal feel. Our signature pieces include corset-style bodices with voluminous skirts, tailored suits with intricate embellishments and statement outerwear that exudes effortless luxury.
“The emotions behind the Paris collection range from nostalgia to empowerment, capturing the journey of self-discovery and transformation.”
“We have a space at SM City Daet in Camarines Norte, Bicol, where we offer curated RTW clothing under SCI PH. Our collection features a special selection of fashionable pieces for everyday wear, special occasions, or simply for those who love fashion. The price range is from P900 to P4000, making it accessible to a broad market of fashion enthusiasts.
“We see the potential for expansion into accessories and beauty, particularly in creating a holistic fashion experience. However, maintaining a strong foundation in clothing design remains the priority. Fashion is about a full lifestyle, but clothing will always remain at the heart of our brand.”
“We were born in the Philippines and later moved to Canada. Our team has diverse backgrounds in digital marketing, distance education, fashion production, and business, complementing our expertise in fashion design. Additionally, we are graduates of a film school in Canada, which has helped shape our storytelling approach in fashion.
“Our journey in fashion began with collaborations and producing fashion shows, giving us the know-how and vision to create our own brand. Working closely with fashion designers in the past, we learned the intricacies of design, styling, and event production, which led to the birth of SCI PH.
“Our aesthetic evolved from a passion for merging structure with fluidity, creating pieces that empower the wearer. We focus on elegance with a modern touch, incorporating elements that make each piece timeless yet fashion-forward.
“Menswear focuses on sharp tailoring and versatility, while designing for models and pageant contenders requires theatrical elements and statement pieces. Designing for real people emphasizes comfort and personal style.
“While we specialize in made-to-order couture collections showcased in Paris and New York, we also want to expand our local RTW brand in the Philippines, where we offer fashionable and quality pieces that our fellow Filipino fashionistas can afford without spending too much.”
“We draw inspiration from timeless fashion icons, art, and culture. One of our greatest mentors is John Ablaza, who has been incredibly generous in sharing his expertise. He has given us opportunities to direct his shows, style his looks and learn from his advocacy in sustainable fashion, community engagement and mentorship programs.
“We are also deeply influenced by Alexander McQueen and Dior. Their visionary designs, innovative craftsmanship and ability to tell stories through fashion have had a profound impact on our creative direction.
“Our muse is Arianna Ramsay, a Filipino-Canadian based in Okotoks, Alberta, in close proximity to Calgary. She is the reigning Miss Teenage Canada and has competed in the Supermodel International competition. Watch out for her — we see a bright future for this young lady in both the pageantry world and commercials and modeling.”
“One of our celebrity clients is Riza Santos, who is based in Calgary. Watch out for more! We have also dressed a wide range of beauty queens and top models in both Canada and the Philippines.
“Dream clients we would love to dress include Melai Cantiveros, Kathryn Bernardo, Anne Curtis, Kim Chiu, Pia Wurtzbach and Heart Evangelista. For male personalities, we’d love to see Alden Richards, Darren Espanto and Brent Manalo in our designs.
“We want these celebrities to wear our collection because they not only embody what SCI PH is all about — diverse and fashionable — but they also share one thing in common: they are not afraid to try out new things, and that’s what we love about them.
“We hope to see a stronger platform for emerging designers, greater sustainability initiatives and a more prominent global presence for Filipino-Canadian fashion creatives.”
