Ely Buendia announces Marcus Adoro's indefinite exit from Eraserheads project amid allegations

Eraserheads vocalist and frontman Ely Buendia announced on Sunday that lead guitarist Marcus Adoro will be taking an indefinite break from the band’s upcoming project following resurfaced allegations of abuse and sexual violence.

The decision comes after a Reddit post went viral earlier last week, where an anonymous user accused Adoro of rape during her high school years. The post also referenced past abuse allegations, including those made publicly by actress Barbara Ruaro and Adoro’s daughter, Syd. The post criticized the media and entertainment industry for continuing to feature Adoro despite the serious accusations against him.

“We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online,” Ely wrote in a statement posted to his social media pages. “As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse of any form. Above all, we seek the truth.”

He added that Adoro would be stepping back from the band’s upcoming endeavors, saying, “As Marcus makes time to address the matter at hand, he will be stepping back from the upcoming project.”

As of writing, Marcus Adoro has not responded to the allegations.

The Eraserheads, one of the most iconic bands in OPM history, is set to headline the “Eraserheads: Electric Fun Music Festival” on 31 May at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Pasay City. It is currently unclear how Adoro’s absence will affect the scheduled performance.

The recent outcry has reignited public discussions about accountability in the entertainment industry, especially in light of how past reports of abuse can be forgotten or ignored in favor of commercial gain. Critics have called out media outlets, production partners, and even the other members of the band, questioning the silence that had surrounded Adoro’s alleged actions.

The online post, which includes graphic and deeply personal recollections, also accuses the media of erasing prior reports about Adoro’s history of abuse and criticized figures in the music and journalism industry for continuing to support him.
