In the heart of Negros, Kaunlad Pinoy’s first nominee, Kuya Choi Napoles, met with Hinoba-an Mayor Daph Reliquias and Candoni Mayor Ray Ruiz to discuss their shared vision — empowering small communities, supporting local businesses and creating opportunities for Filipinos, particularly those in towns often overlooked by larger politicians.

The meeting took place in the scenic town of Hinoba-an, where the three leaders expressed their passion for uplifting small-town entrepreneurs and residents. They believe true progress starts at the grassroots level, where every individual’s efforts matter.

Small-town challenges, big-time potential

The conversation centered on the challenges faced by small towns and the need for more attention from both the government and the private sectors.

Mayor Reliquias and Mayor Ruiz expressed frustration over how larger politicians often overlook smaller towns that make up the backbone of the country.

“Hinoba-an and Candoni may be small, but our people are big in heart. We want to show that we have the potential to thrive,” said Mayor Reliquias. “But we need support, especially for our local entrepreneurs.”

Mayor Ruiz echoed this sentiment, stating, “Our towns are often forgotten, but we’re here, we’re working hard, and we have dreams of our own. We just need a little push, a little guidance.”

Grassroots entrepreneurs

Kuya Choi shared Kaunlad Pinoy’s mission to help small-town businesses succeed, stating, “This is the essence of Kaunlad Pinoy — empowering Filipinos not just in the cities, but in towns like Hinoba-an and Candoni. Entrepreneurship is key to financial freedom, and it starts with people who want to make a difference in their communities.”

Kaunlad Pinoy’s NegoNation program emphasizes building businesses from the ground up, showing that financial independence can come from local entrepreneurship, not just from working abroad or relying on remittances.

“We want people from Hinoba-an, Candoni and other small towns to know they are not forgotten. With the right tools, knowledge and encouragement, they can build businesses that last and serve not just their communities but the entire country,” Kuya Choi added.

Partners of progress

The meeting also explored potential collaborations between local governments and Kaunlad Pinoy to provide mentorship, financial literacy and resources for local entrepreneurs. Both mayors were eager to partner with Kaunlad Pinoy to bring this vision to life in their towns.

“We are committed to our people and to working together to ensure our towns thrive,” said Mayor Ruiz. “With Kaunlad Pinoy’s support, we can equip our people with the tools they need to succeed.”

The exchange between Kuya Choi, Mayor Reliquias, and Mayor Ruiz reinforced their commitment to helping the people of Hinoba-an and Candoni. Their message was clear: Small towns are ready to make their mark, and Kaunlad Pinoy is here to help them reach their potential.
