Senator Bong Go momentarily stopped his campaign motorcade in Malabon City on Friday afternoon to assist an elderly couple who had fallen during a surge of supporters trying to greet senatorial candidates allied with the Duterte coalition.
While in a motorcade in Malabon City on Friday afternoon alongside fellow Duterte-allied senatorial candidates, an elderly couple was caught in a crowd surge and fell as enthusiastic residents gathered to welcome their supported bets.
Senator Go immediately stopped the motorcade to assist the two senior citizens, identified as Lolo Isagani Bautista and Lola Perpetua Bautista. Fellow senatorial aspirants Dr. Richard Mata, a licensed physician, was on hand to assess their condition, while Atty. Jimmy Bondoc also lent assistance.
Senator Go called for an ambulance, and the elderly couple was rushed to the Malabon City Hospital. He stayed with them until they received full medical attention. He also ensured they would not be charged any fees through assistance from the Malasakit Center based at the hospital.
“Senator Go demonstrated his readiness to help in any situation,” the statement read. “He prioritizes the health, safety, and welfare of his fellow Filipinos—even during the campaign period.”
While at the hospital, several patients approached Senator Go to thank him for his previous assistance, particularly the Malasakit Center he helped establish there. The hospital’s medical chief informed Go that more than 53,000 patients have already benefitted from the Malasakit Center at their facility.
Senator Go is the principal sponsor and author of the Malasakit Centers Law, which streamlines the provision of medical assistance from the government, especially for indigent patients. According to the Department of Health, there are currently 167 Malasakit Centers across the country, serving over 17 million Filipinos to date.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Bong Go continues to push for laws and programs that make medical services more accessible to Filipinos, especially the poor.
