The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar has released an advisory urging Filipinos to stay vigilant following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on 30 March 2025. The earthquake, which occurred at 12:50 PM local time, has left widespread damage, particularly in Mandalay, one of the hardest-hit areas.
As of the latest update from the Embassy, four Filipinos are still "unaccounted for" in the aftermath of the disaster. The earthquake, which was centered near Mandalay, has raised concerns for the safety of the Filipino community in the region.
The Embassy has confirmed that out of 128 registered Filipinos in Mandalay, 121 have been located and are reported safe, but the remaining four individuals have yet to be found.
The Embassy reassured the Filipino community that they are actively working to locate the missing nationals. They are closely coordinating with local authorities, rescue teams, and other international organizations involved in search and rescue operations.
Among the places of concern is the collapse of the Sky Villa building in Mandalay, where reports suggest that a Filipino national may be among those trapped. The Embassy is monitoring the situation and continues to pray for the safety of those affected.
In addition to searching for the missing, the Philippine Embassy is preparing to deploy a team to Mandalay for an on-the-ground assessment. They are also making arrangements to distribute essential supplies and provide support, including exploring evacuation routes and repatriation options for Filipinos who need to relocate.
The Embassy reminded all Filipinos in Myanmar to remain alert for possible aftershocks and to stay in contact with one another to ensure everyone’s safety.
For emergencies, Filipinos are encouraged to reach out to the Embassy through the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) hotline at (+95 998 521 0991) or via the official Philippine Embassy in Myanmar Facebook Messenger.
