AFP, U.S. military hold sling load exercise

Salaknib 2025, involving over 5,000 troops from both nations, enhances joint military capabilities, strengthens defense cooperation and fosters trust.

Fort Magsaysay — As part of Salaknib 2025, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the US military conducted a sling load operations exercise on Friday.

The 307th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, based in Aurora Trading Center, Barangay Calabuanan, participated in the exercise. It was led by Captains Marinel C. Agpawa and Maclee Castanares, alongside the 18th Transportation Detachment Commander and reservists.

Officials noted that the exercise improved their skills in airlift and logistics.

“With support from the Philippine Air Force and US Air Force, the exerciswe aimed to enhance operational readiness and interoperability between the two forces,” an official stated.

Sling load operations, which involve transporting cargo via helicopter using slings or cargo nets, are vital for rapid deployment in difficult terrains and emergencies. These operations are key to military combat, disaster response and humanitarian efforts, ensuring swift mobility and resupply.

The exercise also emphasized safety and coordination between ground crews and pilots to ensure effective operations.
