From barefoot processions in Quiapo to standing ovations on grand stages, Angeline Quinto’s journey to stardom is deeply intertwined with her unwavering faith in the Jesus Nazareno. In a recent candid interview with Maricel Soriano, the Kapamilya singer shared the touching story of her devotion, revealing how it paved the way for her remarkable career.

Angeline’s connection to the Black Nazarene began in her childhood. “Seven years old po kasi ako. Si Mama Bob po at ‘yung mga kapitbahay namin sa Sampaloc kung saan ako lumaki, talagang every year ‘pag 9 January, pumupunta po kami sa Quiapo ng nakapaa, naglalakad kami, sumasabay sa prosesyon (I was seven years old. Mama Bob and our neighbors in Sampaloc where I grew up, every year on 9 January, we would go to Quiapo barefoot and walk with the procession),” she recounted, painting a vivid picture of her humble beginnings.

As her beloved “Mama Bob” grew older and could no longer participate in the arduous procession, Angeline continued the tradition, carrying on the prayers that had become a part of her life. Her early prayers were rooted in a desire to provide for her mother. “Dinasal ko po kasi dati na sana magkaroon po ako ng regular na trabaho sa pagkanta kasi gusto ko pong magkaroon ng ipon. Para ‘pag kumikita na po ako, ‘pag may regular na ako na trabaho, matutulungan ko po ‘yung nanay ko sa mga gastusin namin. ‘Yun ang unang-unang dinasal ko sa Kanya (Before, I would pray for a regular singing job because I wanted to have savings. So when I earn money, when I have a regular job, I can help my mother with our expenses. That was the first thing I prayed for to Him),” she revealed.

However, the path to her dreams wasn’t without its obstacles. Angeline faced rejection from hotels due to her age, hindering her initial aspirations of becoming a lounge singer. But with unwavering determination, she turned to another avenue: Singing competitions.

“Ang ginawa ko, sumali po ako ng mga contests. At least kung mananalo ako ng contest, sa’yo lang ‘yung pera mo. Doon po nag-start (What I did was, I joined contests. At least if I won the contest, your money would be yours. That’s where it started),” she explained, marking the beginning of her “kontesera” era. This period of relentless pursuit honed her talent and resilience, ultimately leading her to the spotlight.

Her persistence paid off in 2011 when she emerged victorious in the talent competition Star Power, catapulting her into the realm of mainstream success. This victory served as a testament to her talent and a fulfillment of her heartfelt prayers.

Angeline Quinto’s story is a powerful reminder that faith and hard work can pave the way for extraordinary achievements.
