Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV), the Non-East Zone subsidiary of Manila Water Co., has launched its summer mitigation plan to ensure continuous water supply across its service areas as the dry season begins.
MWPV said on Thursday that the mitigation plan takes into account the effects of global warming and climate change on water sources. It involves coordinated, data-driven programs across its operating units in areas such as Batangas, Laguna, Isabela, Aklan, Cebu, Samar, and Davao del Norte.
Predictive models and historical data are being used to proactively deploy resources, ensuring a reliable water supply, fewer service interruptions, and increased customer confidence during peak summer demand.
"As we enter the dry and warm season, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that our water service remains uninterrupted despite any challenges,” said Melvin John Tan, Chief Operating Officer of Manila Water Non-East Zone.
“Recognizing the global impacts of climate change and global warming on water supply, we are committed to implementing strategies that bolster the resilience of our water sources and facilities, assuring our customers of our hands-on approach to maintaining reliable service,”
The company also put in place a similar plan last year to combat El Niño.
MWPV's preparedness activities include NRW recovery, network improvements, deep well and surface water source rehabilitation, and preventive maintenance.
The company also optimizes network utilization, transitioning between supply- and demand-based operations, and developing new water sources.
In critical situations, MWPV said it is ready to deploy water tankers, install static tanks and interconnectivity network lines, operate standby deep wells, and enhance water treatment plant recovery programs.
