Comelec urges overseas voters to register for internet voting

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged Filipino overseas anew to sign up for internet voting.

As of 24 March, almost 5,000 Filipinos abroad are currently enrolled in internet voting. However, this is still far short from the over 1.2 million registered voter.

"For our overseas voters, don't adapt the ningas kugon. Even though the deadline is still on 7 May, they need to enroll," Garcia said.

"Many are coming to us, saying they are happy with the fast process in our system," he added, noting that some overseas voters only took five to 10 minutes to enroll.

A total of 77 posts will be using the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS), while the remaining 16 Philippine embassies and consulate generals will use the automated counting machine.

The overseas voting period will be from 13 April to 12 May. They will be voting for national positions only or 12 senators and one party-list group.
