Senator Cynthia A. Villar led the inauguration of a new building at the Las Pin.as General Hospital & Satellite Trauma

(LPGH & STC) on Monday, March 17, 2025. Alongside the opening of a new access road to the 35-bed COVID hospital, walking distance from Las Pin.as general hospital. These developments mark a significant enhancement of healthcare services in the city.

The newly completed 12-storey building expands the hospital's capacity from 200 to 500 beds.

The LPGH&STC expansion is a result of Republic Act No. 11497, which was championed by Deputy Speaker Camille Villar in the House of Representatives and Senator Cynthia Villar in the Senate.

The law not only increases the hospital's bed capacity but also upgrades its healthcare services and boosts its workforce, including doctors, nurses, and support staff. Senator Villar emphasized that the expansion would not only benefit Las Pin.as residents but also patients from southern Metro Manila and nearby cities and municipalities in Cavite.

"This hospital has a rich history spanning 48 years. It has undergone various transformations, all aimed to better serve the people," Villar said.

In 1977, the hospital was established as the Las Pin.as Emergency Hospital, initially operating as a small outpatient clinic located in front of St. Joseph's Church, home to the renowned Las Pin.as Bamboo Organ.

• In 1984, the hospital was renamed Las Pin.as District Hospital (LPDH) and its bed capacity was set at 25.

• By 1992, the hospital expanded its bed capacity from 25 to 50.

• In 1997, the hospital relocated to its current site at Bernabe Compound, Barangay Pulanglupa I, to better accommodate the growing needs of the community.

• In 2004, during her first term as Congresswoman of Las Pin.as, Villar authored Republic Act No. 9240, which upgraded the hospital to Las Pin.as General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, increasing its bed capacity to 200. This significant step was made possible with the support of Senator Manny Villar, who ensured its passage in the Senate.

Since then, the hospital has undergone continuous improvements, becoming one of the leading medical facilities in Metro Manila.

Senator Villar envisions Las Pin.as General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center (LPGH&STC) becoming the "PGH of the South" - a premier public hospital that offers top-tier medical care within reach of the region's residents, eliminating the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.

In partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), PhilHealth, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Villar family remains deeply committed to further strengthening the hospital's services and infrastructure, ensuring that it continues to meet the evolving healthcare needs of he community.

"Mahal namin ang ospital na ito dahil ito ang takbuhan ng ating mga kababayang nangangailangan ng serbisyong pangkalusugan," Villar stated.

Beyond improving infrastructure, Senator Villar underscored the critical need to invest in healthcare workers.

"This new facility is dedicated to our doctors, nurses, and medical staff, whose unwavering dedication drives us to advocate for reforms and development," she said

Villar also take time to recognize the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic tested our healthcare system. "The pandemic has taught us to rethink our priorities in government, especially the urgent need to expand and upgrade public hospitals and health facilities. Increasing our hospital bed capacity will ensure that regular healthcare services are not disrupted in the event a similar health crisis arises in the future," she added.

The new facility marks a major leap forward in strengthening the healthcare system in Las Pin.as, especially for families who rely on public hospitals.
