ECC marks 50 years of championing workers’ welfare

The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) celebrated its 50th founding anniversary on 19 March 2025 in Manila, reaffirming its commitment to protecting workers through the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).

With the theme “Limampung Taong Sulong sa Pagtulong” (Fifty Years Moving Forward in Helping), the milestone event highlighted the ECC’s efforts in providing benefits and assistance to public and private sector employees affected by work-related sickness, injury, disability, or death.

Joining the secretary during the ceremony are Labor Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez (leftmost in the third row) and Labor Assistant Secretary Lennard Constantine C. Serrano (not in photo).

Department of Labor and Employment Secretary and ECC Governing Board Chairperson Bienvenido E. Laguesma commended the dedication of ECC personnel in serving persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs).

ECC Executive Director Atty. Kaima Via B. Velasquez emphasized the significance of the occasion in honoring the contributions of ECC employees and partners over the years. She also laid out the organization’s vision for sustained progress in the coming decades.

The event recognized PWRDs who successfully recovered with ECC’s support and paid tribute to past ECC executive directors for their contributions. Among those honored were former Executive Directors Atty. Wilhelm D. Soriano, Elmer D. Juridico, and Stella Zipagan-Banawis, as well as former Officer-in-Charge Executive Director Engr. Jose Maria S. Batino.

Labor Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez and Labor Assistant Secretary Lennard Constantine C. Serrano were also present to mark the occasion.
