GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), led by Chairperson Leo Tereso Magno, emphasized the need for proactive collaboration between the private sector and foreign embassies to drive Mindanao’s economic expansion during the Mindanao Trade and Investment Forum.
Held in Makati City, the forum was themed “Driving Global Partnerships for Sustainable Growth in 2025,” aiming to position Mindanao as a key player in global commerce.
In his keynote address, Magno underscored the region’s readiness for global partnerships, stating, “Mindanao is not just an opportunity waiting to be discovered — it is a region ready for collaboration.”
He highlighted the government’s commitment to creating a competitive investment environment, including the ongoing “Build, Build More” infrastructure program under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which has already inaugurated P173 billion worth of projects in Mindanao, including the Laguindingan Airport and the Panguil Bay Bridge.
Magno also pointed out the government’s efforts to reduce bureaucratic barriers, facilitating smoother investments. US Embassy Commercial Counselor Paul Taylor praised these reforms, emphasizing their role in making Mindanao more attractive to foreign investors. MinDA continues to work with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Investment and Economic Affairs to further streamline investment processes.
The forum, co-organized by MinDA and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, brought together diplomats and officials, including New Zealand Ambassador Catherine McIntosh, and representatives from Australia, Canada and the US. It also highlighted Mindanao’s potential in agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology and the halal industry.
