Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya, a successful businesswoman and owner of a quadruple-A construction company, shared an emotional story on social media Wednesday about receiving a heartfelt letter from a student asking for bond paper for his teachers.
“My heart was touched by this child’s letter, whose only request was for four packs of A4 bond paper,” Discaya wrote in her post.
“It warms our hearts that, despite his young age, he showed such concern for his fellow students, teachers, and parents,” she said.
The handwritten letter in Filipino read: “Ate Sarah, I hope you can provide my teachers with four packs of A4 bond paper because we no longer have any in the classroom. This way, we won’t have to buy some and our allowance won’t be reduced.”
In reply, Discaya sent a letter to the child, also writing in Filipino: “Here is the paper you requested so your teacher and classmates won’t have to spend any money. Keep being a good student and caring for your teachers and classmates. I’ll see you soon.”
Discaya said letters like this inspire her to continue working toward a brighter future for the youth. “The education of the youth must not only be of high quality but the school facilities, supplies, uniforms, and security should also be prioritized,” she said.
She added, “The same goes for our teachers, for their welfare they should be provided with complete and quality equipment to aid in their teaching. That’s what I want for Pasig: a place where people no longer need to ask for basic support. This isn’t about promoting laziness, but ensuring that the services Pasigueños get are complete.”
