Sen. Cynthia A. Villar led the inauguration of a new 12-storey building at the Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center (LPGH & STC) on Monday, 17 March, marking a major step forward in enhancing healthcare services in the city. Alongside the hospital expansion, a new 220-meter access road was also opened, improving connectivity to health facilities in the area.

The new building, designed to increase the hospital's bed capacity from 200 to 500, was constructed under Republic Act No. 11497, a law championed by Rep. Camille Villar in the House of Representatives and Sen. Cynthia Villar in the Senate.

The law also mandates improvements in the hospital’s professional health care services and a significant increase in its workforce, including doctors, nurses, and support staff.

“The expansion of LPGH & STC will not only benefit Las Piñas residents but also provide much-needed healthcare to those in the southern part of Manila, as well as nearby cities and municipalities in Cavite,” Senator Villar said during the event.

The inauguration of the new road, which runs along the river drive, will provide permanent access to the hospital. The road was initially used during the COVID-19 pandemic to reach the modular hospital, offering essential access during an unprecedented health crisis.

Villar, who is running for Las Piñas Representative in the upcoming elections, expressed her satisfaction with the completion of the twin projects, which mark the end of her two terms as senator. She also vowed to continue advocating for similar worthwhile initiatives should she be given the chance to serve as a congresswoman.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the importance of prioritizing government investments in public hospitals and health facilities,” Villar said. “Increasing our hospital bed capacity ensures that our healthcare services will not be disrupted in the event of another health crisis.”

Villar has long been a champion for healthcare improvements in Las Piñas. As a former representative of the district, she authored Republic Act 9240 in 2004, which converted the Las Piñas District Hospital into LPGH & STC and expanded its capacity from 50 to 200 beds. The hospital has since undergone continuous upgrades, cementing its reputation as one of the leading medical facilities in Metro Manila.

The latest developments further cement Villar’s legacy of pushing for improvements in healthcare and infrastructure, ensuring that the city is better equipped to handle future health emergencies.
