NBI warns vloggers spreading fake news

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to take action against vloggers, including the controversial “Maharlika,” who are spreading fake news and misinformation, according to NBI Director Judge Jimmy Santiago.

Santiago made this announcement at a recent forum held on Maria Orosa Street, Malate, where he revealed that the Bureau is building a case against these individuals who have been sowing confusion with their false narratives.

Santiago specifically mentioned the vlogger “Maharlika,” who he said is based in the United States but continuously releases videos attacking the Philippine government, especially targeting the first family.

He emphasized that the NBI would coordinate efforts with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, social media platforms such as Facebook, and other relevant authorities to ensure these individuals face legal consequences.

“We will file charges against them, and if they are abroad, we will work with Interpol to bring them back to the Philippines. If they attempt to return to the country, we will arrest them as soon as they set foot in the airport,” Santiago stated, making it clear that the NBI is committed to addressing this issue head-on.

Santiago also warned that those who are already in the Philippines will be arrested, while those abroad will face legal action and be barred from returning home.

“Those here will be arrested, and those abroad, we’ll file charges. They won’t be able to come back to visit their families, and we will arrest them as soon as they land at NAIA,” he warned.

In addition, Santiago took the opportunity to criticize former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque for allegedly calling for an EDSA 3 rally while being abroad.

Santiago challenged Roque to return to the Philippines and lead the rally he’s calling for.

While acknowledging that the crime was committed abroad, Santiago noted that since the vlogs were being disseminated in the Philippines, the government has jurisdiction over the matter. He emphasized that the NBI will not let this issue slide and will pursue the necessary legal action.
