A founding member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP Laban) declared on Friday that the massive prayer rallies in Mindanao signal divine intervention already taking place.
Manny Lumanao, the regional president of PDP Laban in Caraga, believes these rallies are a precursor to significant developments in the coming days that will dramatically reshape the political landscape in the Philippines.
In an interview with the DAILY TRIBUNE, Lumanao explained that the ongoing prayer rallies across Mindanao and other regions, including Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Bislig City, Tandag, Davao, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Marawi City, Cebu and Iloilo, show that the people are coming together in solidarity.
They have been praying and lighting candles for former President Rodrigo Duterte in a spontaneous display of support.
“At dusk, people began gathering in public spaces to join spontaneous peace rallies,” Lumanao said, noting that the surge in participation is an indication of a deeper, collective will among the people.
The rallies have gained momentum following PRRD’s arrest and subsequent extradition to The Hague, Netherlands, where he faces trial for alleged crimes against humanity.
Mayor Sara Duterte Alliance (MASADA) has previously stated that only a “divine intervention” can resolve PRRD’s fate and that the political situation in the country will be drastically affected in the coming days.
“No amount of indignation rallies and protests can resolve the fate of Tatay Digong,” MASADA said in a statement. “Only divine intervention can change the course of the political landscape in the country.”
The group also pointed out the silence of US President Donald Trump regarding the ICC’s actions, suggesting that PRRD must now face his legal battle alone before the international tribunal.
Lumanao, for his part, suggested that the arrest of the former President will backfire on the administration. He predicted it would trigger a “snowball effect,” benefiting the nine PDP Laban candidates who are steadily rising in the Senatorial race.
“The people are closely watching the developments in the Netherlands,” Lumanao said. “The arrest will backfire on the administration candidates, and it will have a significant impact on the political landscape.”
As the political drama unfolds, the public’s growing unrest and the surge in prayer rallies highlight the mounting tension and the potential for significant changes in the country’s political climate. Many are now waiting to see how these developments will influence the upcoming elections and the future of Philippine politics.
