The first trailer for the highly anticipated live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has captured hearts with its adorable, heartfelt moments, paying tribute to the original 2002 animated film.
Promising a faithful adaptation of the animated classic, the trailer opens with Stitch, a dog-like alien (voiced by Chris Sanders), as he escapes his home planet via spaceship and crashes into Earth’s atmosphere. On the ground, Lilo (played by Maia Kealoha), a lonely girl yearning for a best friend, encounters the mischievous alien.
Their unexpected bond quickly forms, with Lilo marveling, "He's so cute and fluffy!" as she introduces Stitch to her sister, Nani (Sydney Agudong), who reminds her that the alien is now her "responsibility."
The trailer also offers a glimpse of the adventure that unfolds, with Lilo, Stitch, and Nani caught up in a whirlwind of action. People question whether the fugitive alien could truly be a “dog,” while others from Stitch’s galaxy are determined to recapture him.
Despite Stitch’s antics, Nani is reluctant to keep him, but Lilo insists, quoting the iconic line, "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."
Stitch, aware of his misbehavior, confesses, "I’m bad," and attempts to apologize. Lilo, ever understanding, reassures him, "Sometimes, family isn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good."
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes, the live-action film features an impressive cast, including Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis.
Lilo & Stitch is set to hit theaters on 23 May.
