Poe, Ramos eyed as next DICT chief

A day after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. accepted the resignation of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy, speculation has surfaced regarding his possible replacement. Among those being considered for the post are Senator Grace Poe and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Executive Director Alexander Ramos.

Poe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, is set to complete her term in June, making her a potential candidate for the role. Meanwhile, Ramos, who currently leads the CICC, has been instrumental in cybersecurity efforts under the DICT.

Malacañang has yet to confirm whether President Marcos has already designated an officer-in-charge (OIC) for the DICT. However, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro assured the public that an interim official would be appointed to oversee operations.

Uy, who was appointed as DICT secretary in June 2022, officially tendered his resignation this week. His departure marks the third cabinet resignation in the Marcos administration since the start of the year.

On 13 February, former Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista stepped down due to health reasons and was replaced by Vince Dizon. In the same month, Cesar Chavez stepped down as Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office, citing his inability to meet expectations, and was replaced by former broadcast journalist Jay Ruiz.
