Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, assured the public that the longstanding issue of the license plate backlog, which has affected millions of clients since 2014, will be resolved this year.
Mendoza expressed his gratitude to Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Vince Dizon for his unwavering support in addressing the challenges set forth by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., particularly in making life easier for Filipino motorists.
“Since Day One of his assumption of the DoTr top post, we have been in constant coordination with Secretary Dizon to present all the challenges we face, as well as the solutions,” Mendoza said.
“We are grateful for his support and for sharing his valuable insights and suggestions to further improve our services for the Filipino people,” he added.
Mendoza highlighted that one of the key issues he has already addressed was the shortage of plastic cards used for printing driver’s licenses, as well as the special paper for the Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration.
Additionally, he acknowledged the ongoing efforts to resolve the backlog of more than 13 million license plates for both four-wheel vehicles and motorcycles.
While the backlog for four-wheel vehicle plates has largely been resolved, the issue remains for motorcycles, which the LTO is now gradually addressing.
Secretary Dizon previously committed to improving the overall experience for motorists and commuters, starting with the resolution of the license plate backlog and ensuring adequate supply systems for basic LTO services.
“It’s already 2025, we have good technology, so there is no reason for delay. We will focus more on the basic services of the LTO to the people,” Secretary Dizon stated.
“Asec. Vigor has taken up the challenge, and within the term of President Marcos, we will bid farewell to the problems of the past and move forward with better services. But we have to start with the basics,” he concluded.
